Here is a little information about how Hoop For Life started. Sheri began hooping in 2008. She was looking for a fun way to exercise and came across Hoopnotica while searching the internet. After further investigation, she bought the Level 1 DVD and got started on this unique exercise format.
After watching the DVD and trying unsuccessfully to hoop, Sheri elicited the help of a friend. In her friend’s backyard, Sheri discovered the joy in hooping. While her first attempts were not successful (It took about a week for her to learn the basics) she was determined to hoop. During that week though, Sheri laughed (mostly at herself) and had so much fun that she was hooked on hooping. Sheri became aware of the laughter and joy that is, in her opinion, inherent in hooping. Once she got the basics, she knew with practice (and more laughter) she could master more advanced moves.
In September 2008, Sheri became a certified Hoopnotica® instructor and soon thereafter, started HoopforLife.
She began teaching hooping classes at Mt. SAC’s Exercise Science and Wellness Center as well as Total Woman Gym and Day Spa in Brea. Her students were not interested in learning hoopdance tricks, but desired to use hooping as a form of aerobic activity. Responding to her student’s needs she began developing athletic based exercises while hooping. Sheri is an ACSM certified personal trainer and uses her knowledge to create fun and effective cardiovascular hoop workouts to build endurance and develop strength.
Personally, Sheri discovered that these exercises actually helped her hoopdancing by increasing her endurance, balance, and coordination. As Sheri developed exercises for her class, she realized she had developed a solid hooping base from which she could expand and develop more creative dance movements.
Her passion is to share the joy of hooping that she experiences with as many people as possible.
